Consultation has concluded and the Events Strategy and Action Plan 2020-2024 has been endorsed by Wagga Wagga City Council.

Events bring people together, contributing to wellbeing, strengthening cultural identity and harmony and make the city a more vibrant place to live. Events can also be a catalyst for infrastructure improvements and commercial investment. Hosting events builds the profile of Wagga Wagga, promoting the destination to potential visitors, creating business connections and can enhance perceptions of the city and region.

Wagga Wagga boasts a diverse and vibrant calendar of cultural, social business, leisure and sporting events, which drive visitation and generate significant economic, social and environmental outcomes for the region. Eight major tourism events were hosted in our city in 2018/19 with over 50,000 attendees generating an estimated economic impact of $10.5M and 30,000 visitor nights.

The city has the capacity to host large annual events and events such as Gears and Beers, Wagga Gold Cup, Fusion Multicultural Festival and deliver high profile, one-off events such as the 2018 Queen’s Baton Relay. New festivals and events including Lost Lanes and the Wagga Wagga Mardi Gras add depth to the city’s events offering, providing opportunities to showcase Wagga Wagga to new markets and encourage travel to the region.
