Digital Optimisation. What is it?

Digital Optimisation is a joint project between Communications & Engagement and IT, aimed squarely at redeveloping our websites to better serve our customers. This includes things like redesigning websites, improving web content, assigning web content ownership, training content publishers and implementing best practice governance. We want to provide customers with modern, usable websites that provide them with fast access to accurate information and enable them to complete their objectives with minimal effort.

In addition to this, we want the same for you. As part of this project we are looking to redevelop the intranet into a tool that works for you and supports your business area. In order to do this, we need a deeper understanding of what information and tools you need to complete your daily tasks.

This project will involve lots of consultation, there will be an initial survey, followed by prototypes and drop-in sessions so you can see first-hand what is being built.

The survey results have been collated and a high level overview can be found in the Intranet Survey Presentation in the documents of this project.

We had 99 responses from all over the organisation, giving us a great cross section of users of the Intranet.

Some key findings were that of the 99 respondents:

    • 89% use the Intranet either daily or every other day
    • Only half are aware of what information and resources are available on the Intranet
    • Only 31% can easily find the information they are seeking
    • Only 18% believe the Intranet is simple and intuitive to navigate
    • Only 20% agree that the content is up-to-date and relevant
    • 61% believe that it would be beneficial to have a personalised Intranet
Next steps in the process will be:
    1. Create priority list
    2. Work with stakeholders to manage content
    3. Prototype
    4. Staff consultation and feedback
